General Information for Au Pairs

The Au Pair scheme is a cultural exchange program. It allows you to come to visit London and learn about it's tradtions and customs. It is a way for you to gain a "great" experience without having to worry about money, work or accommodation. We will find a host family for you to stay with and they will provide you with money, accommodation and food. In return you will "assist" them with looking after children and household duties.
There are 3 different types of Au Pairs; "Standard Au Pair", "Au Pair Plus" and "Au Pair - Mother's help".
Standard Au Pair
Au Pair Plus
Au Pair - Mother's Help
A "Standard" Au Pair will "assist" for 25 hours a week and may include two babysitting shifts. This is very good for Au Pairs that want a lot of free time for studying, sight seeing etc. An Au Pair Plus will "assist" for upto 34 hours a week and can include two babysitting shifts. This may mean spending more time looking after children etc and you will have less free time during the day. You should have a wider range of childcare experience and will be able to assist the parent for upto 42 hours a week. This can also include two babysitting shifts. This is more beneficial for Au Pairs who wish to earn more money whilst learning English in the evenings.

The term "assist" can include things like light housework, ironing, taking kids to school, cooking tea for children, playing with children. At Hampstead Au Pair Agency we take special care in "correct" matching. It is important for us to match you with a host family that is suitable. You can be an Au Pair for a minimum of six months and a maximum of two years. After two years you will have to return to your country or apply for a student visa.
